NEXpbx Fax Connect is a cloud fax service from NexgenTec that works directly with eClinicalWorks, replacing the fax modem and analog phone line under an eCW fax server. Most cloud fax services give an eCW practice a web inbox and leave the rest to the front desk. NEXpbx connects both directions: inbound faxes arrive in eCW with nothing to file by hand, and outbound faxes leave eCW's own fax screens over the internet, with the result reported back into eCW. The modem and the analog line that used to sit under all of it can be retired.

Why eCW Practices Are Moving Now

The copper is going away
Analog phone lines are being retired across the country, and your fax modem can't work without one. Moving both directions of fax traffic onto the internet now means the shutoff date isn't your emergency.
Modems fail silently
When a modem stops working, eCW rarely says so—outbound faxes just sit on Sending. One practice we moved onto the eCW Fax Bridge found its faxes had been showing Sending for over a year. With the bridge, every fax comes back Completed or Failed with a reason.
One line can't do both jobs
On a single analog line, an outbound fax means a busy signal for whoever is trying to reach you. Over the internet, inbound and outbound don't compete, and there's no second modem or Windows Server upgrade to pay for.

Questions eCW Practices Ask
Does this work with cloud-hosted eClinicalWorks?
Yes, as long as your fax server is on site. The eCW Fax Bridge runs on the eCW fax server—the machine eCW already hands outbound faxes to—so it doesn't matter whether eClinicalWorks itself is hosted in the cloud or on your own server. What it does need is that fax server; if you don't have one, see the next question. Inbound delivery, print to fax, and the portal work regardless.
What if we don't have an eCW fax server?
The fax server is what files inbound faxes into eCW and hands outbound ones off, so the integration needs one in both directions. The path we recommend: have eClinicalWorks set up a fax server first—it's a one-time build, not a subscription—and then we move it onto Fax Connect and retire the modem and phone line. Is anything in eClinicalWorks changed?
No. Your fax screens, cover pages, and workflow stay exactly as they are, and nothing in eCW is reconfigured. Staff keep faxing the way they do today; the difference is what happens after they click send, and that the result actually comes back.
What if it doesn't work out?
We can switch the outbound bridge off from our side at any time, and within minutes eCW is back on its original fax software. The change is fully reversible, so there's nothing to rebuild.
Who installs it, and how long does it take?
A NexgenTec technician installs both pieces remotely in one short session. Your staff don't download, configure, or click through anything. From then on it keeps itself up to date, and its health is visible under Connected apps in the portal.
What happens if our internet goes down?
Outbound faxes queue safely on your server and go out when the connection is back; eCW shows them as pending, never lost. Inbound faxes keep arriving in the portal the whole time and are delivered to your practice as soon as it's reachable again.
Can we keep our fax number?
Yes. We port your existing fax numbers to NEXpbx, so nothing changes for the practices and pharmacies that fax you.
