Your Fax Number, Without the Fax Hardware

Fax Connect is the part of NexgenTec's NEXpbx cloud fax service that delivers faxes into and out of a practice's own systems automatically. A NEXpbx fax number works like email. Incoming faxes land in a secure web portal; outgoing faxes go out from the portal, or from any program through a print-to-fax printer. For practices that need faxes to flow into and out of their own systems automatically, Fax Connect delivers incoming faxes straight to the system your team already works in, and sends outgoing faxes straight out of eClinicalWorks—with no modem, no phone line, and no new software for the front desk to learn.

Fax Connect is included at no extra cost on Fax 12000 plans and up. Print to fax and the portal come with every plan.

Three Ways a Fax Gets Where It's Going

Pick the ones that fit your practice—they work together

Receive straight into your systems

Fax Connect delivers every incoming fax, within minutes, to the computer you choose—ready for your EHR, document management, or scanning workflow to pick up, with no one downloading or renaming anything. Each fax arrives exactly once, consistently named; a PC that's off for a day catches up when it comes back, and nothing is lost or duplicated. Every fax stays in the portal too, so you always have a second copy and a searchable history.

Send from eClinicalWorks

The eCW Fax Bridge takes eClinicalWorks' own outbound faxing off the modem and sends it through NEXpbx instead. Same eCW screens, same workflow, nothing to retrain. Every fax's outcome comes back into eCW: Completed when it's delivered, or Failed with a plain-language reason—"the receiving number never answered as a fax machine"—instead of a cryptic error. Every sent fax also appears in the portal with its pages and transmission receipt.

Print to fax from anything

Add a NEXpbx fax printer to any Windows or Mac computer—a native printer, no driver download—and send a fax from any program with File → Print. The document waits in that person's Drafts in the portal so they can add a cover page and pick the number; then it goes out on your fax line. Printers are personal to each user and can be removed at any time.

How the eCW Fax Bridge Works

For practices with an on-site eCW fax server

Nothing in eCW changes

The bridge sits between eClinicalWorks and NEXpbx on your fax server and carries each outgoing fax over an encrypted connection. Nothing in eCW is reconfigured; cover pages and fax screens are exactly as they were, and staff never know it's there.

Results back in about 30 seconds

Once a fax is delivered—or isn't—the result is reported back into eCW within about 30 seconds, where staff already look for it. No more faxes sitting on Sending with no way to tell whether they went.

Queues safely if the internet drops

If your connection goes down, outgoing faxes wait on your server and go out when it's back. eCW shows them as pending, never lost.

Fully reversible

We can switch sending on or off from our side at any time. Switching it off hands your eCW server back to its original fax software within minutes.

Looks after itself

The bridge updates itself outside office hours and recovers on its own if anything stops it. Documents are removed from your server as soon as each fax is delivered; the portal keeps the copy under your plan's retention period.

Works with your existing eCW fax setup

The bridge replaces the modem hop only. It needs an on-site eCW fax server—the machine eCW already hands outbound faxes to—and works whether eClinicalWorks itself runs on your own server or is cloud-hosted. Running eCW? See the full eClinicalWorks integration and pricing.

See It Working

We install it, then you watch it from the portal

1

We install it for you

A NexgenTec technician sets up Fax Connect on the PC that should receive faxes—and the eCW Fax Bridge on your eCW server—remotely, in one short session. There's nothing for your staff to download, click through, or configure.

2

You tell us where faxes should land; we handle the rest

You choose only where faxes go. Everything else—naming, ordering, making sure each one arrives exactly once—is taken care of. Works on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server, with no third-party software.

3

It keeps itself up to date

From then on, Fax Connect updates itself. There's nothing to patch and nothing to remember.

Connected Apps: One Screen for Everything on Your Side

In the portal, under Fax › Settings › Connected apps, your administrator sees every piece running on your own computers—Fax Connect receiving, the eCW Fax Bridge, and each print-to-fax printer—with a plain status (Working, Needs attention, or Offline), when it last checked in, and whether anything is waiting.

When something is wrong, it says what to check in everyday language—"check that the PC is on"—rather than an error code. A banner on the fax inbox lets everyone know while anything is offline, and our support team sees the same screen you do, so a call starts from the same place.

Why Now

The phone line under your fax machine is on its way out

Copper lines are being retired

Analog phone lines are being decommissioned across the country, and the modem in your fax server depends on one. Moving both directions of fax traffic onto the internet now means the retirement date isn't your problem.

Modems fail silently

When a modem stops working, eCW rarely says so—faxes just sit on Sending. One practice we brought onto the eCW Fax Bridge discovered its outbound faxes had been showing Sending for over a year. Nobody had been told, because nothing had told them.

Every fax gets a clear result

Delivered, or failed with a reason you can act on—in eCW and in the portal, with a transmission receipt for every delivered fax and one-click resend for any that didn't make it.

Security and Privacy

What we do, stated plainly

Encrypted in transit

All traffic between your computers and NEXpbx is encrypted (HTTPS, TLS 1.2 or newer). Transmission to the far fax machine is ordinary fax over the phone network, as it is for any fax service.

Cut off in an instant

Each connection to your fax line is separate and revocable. We can disconnect any piece immediately from our side, and print-to-fax printers can be removed by your administrator at any time.

Contents stay out of logs

Fax documents are never included in logs. Support diagnostics contain status and counts, never contents.

Access is per user, and recorded

Access to fax contents in the portal is granted per person and logged. NexgenTec staff must record a reason before opening a customer's fax.
